Get ready for the most beautiful sunsets. -Angie ‘22 - Joshua Tree National Park + Exposition Park has the best of indoors and outdoors—you can picnic in the rose garden or explore the museums there, including the California African American Museum. - Exposition Park + We love Mt. Baldy for its hiking, skiing (in the winter), and sunset watching. Plus, it’s only 20 minutes from campus. - Mt. Baldy + Laguna Beach’s gorgeous coast, fun shops, and cool art galleries definitely requires a day trip with friends during your time at Scripps. I love going to A Thousand Steps beach in Laguna. -Nathalie ’22 - Laguna Beach + Stroll the Venice Beach boardwalk, ride your bike, or read a good book in an empty lifeguard tower (but don’t say we told you that). - Venice Beach + The gorgeous center at Tiernan Field House is perfect for hanging out with friends, studying poolside, or getting some exercise in. I like to study by the pool at the Tiernan Field House. -Sydney ’23 - Sallie Tiernan Field House + Most 5C students hang out in the Claremont Village. Only a 15-minute walk from campus, it has cool secondhand stores, delicious eateries, and a Sunday farmer’s market. The Village is such a fun place to be. -Sydney ‘23 - The Claremont village + On Wednesdays, we drink tea. Head to Seal Court for midweek afternoon tea (and snacks) to hang out with your friends and professors. It’s a great opportunity to take a breather. -Angie ’22 - Afternoon Tea + If you want something cold and sweet for our warm and sunny days here, BertRocky’s in the Claremont Village has over 200 delicious ice cream flavors. - BertRocky's + Attending Scripps is like attending five colleges in one; you can take classes and get involved at the other four schools in the Claremont Colleges. Yes, really. - Claremont Colleges + It’s a straight shot on the Metro from campus to El Pueblo, the birthplace of LA. You can tour the historic sites and visit the Mexican Marketplace. It’s a lively exhibition of LA history. -Siena ’22 - El Pueblo de Los Angeles + You can grab your homework or a book and hang out at the Getty Museum and its beautiful grounds for the day (after viewing the art, of course). The Getty Museum is free! -Nathalie ’22 - Getty Museum + When you graduate, you’ll join all the Scripps students who came before you by signing your name to the Graffiti Wall. It’s a great way to leave your mark. This is my personal favorite tradition. -Angie ’22 - Graffiti Wall + There are a lot of top companies in SoCal—and most of them offer internships. Scripps students have interned at places like 20th Century Fox Studios and Apple. An internship can give you a leg up in the graduate job search. -Caroline ’22 - Internships + You’ll learn empowering leadership skills with the Laspa Center for Leadership’s programs. They teach on topics like financial literacy and civic engagement. I’ve never seen anything like it. -Jaela Alvarez ’23 - Laspa Center + The Little Tokyo neighborhood in LA is where you need to go if you’re looking for amazing ramen, mochi, sushi, and more. It’s one of my favorite places to visit! -Angie ’22 - Little Tokyo + Dining hall food often gets a bad rap, but at Scripps, that’s not the case. Most Scripps students eat at the Malott dining hall and love all the fresh options. How’s the food? I would say, fantastic! I love our food. -Siena ’22 - Malott Commons + Dress up as fancy as you like, walk through the Denison Library’s doors with your classmates, and sign your name in the Scripps book. Afterwards, it’s time to party. Definitely one of the best moments of my college life. -Angie ’22 - Matriculation + This isn’t your typical farmer’s market. The Grove’s Original Farmer’s Market has stalls with any kind of food you could want, from Italian to Brazilian. - Original Farmer's Market + Get mugged by Scripps alumnae—and by that, we mean you get a free Scripps mug along with a personalized letter from a Scripps alumna. - Scripps Mugging + Seal Court is a Scripps lifestyle kind of thing—it’s the perfect spot to grab a seat and study, eat, or hang with friends in the sunshine. - Seal Court + Get your sweet tooth fix with the baked goods from Some Crust Bakery in the Claremont Village (it’s a student favorite). Bonus: they offer student discounts. I love the iced sugar cookies. -Sydney ’23 - Some Crust Bakery + Student clubs and organizations (clorgs) are great ways to make lasting friendships, explore your interests, and get the most out of your time in college. - Student Clorgs + Around 60% of Scripps students study abroad, because it’s the best way to continue your studies, learn a new culture, and travel during college—you can have it all. - Study Abroad + The Huntington is a triple threat—it has a library, art museum, and gorgeous botanical gardens. You could easily spend all day here. Live your cottage core fantasies! -Angie ‘22 - The Huntington + The Motley, just off Seal Court, is our student-run cafe. It’s one of the most popular places on campus; you can get great coffee and something to eat here. - The Motley Coffeehouse + It wouldn’t be SoCal without Disneyland, Universal Studios, and Six Flags—simply pick your favorite and spend a day there with your friends. - Theme Parks + Union on Yale in the Claremont Village is a cool spot with a little bit of everything. Plus, they have outdoor seating (perfect on warm, sunny SoCal days). I really like their avocado toast with egg. -Sydney ’23 - Union on Yale + Every Sunday you’ll find a farmer’s market at the Claremont Village; you can walk there and pick up affordable, fresh food. - Claremont Farmer's Market Drag or Click to Discover More Swipe to Discover More I'm feeling adventurous What would a day in your Scripps life look like? She loves how the Scripps' campus and culture are structured to create connections—and how she's been able to make amazing memories here (like when she watched the lunar eclipse on the lawn with her friends). "This place feels like a home; I know I'll visit after I graduate." View Siena's Weekend Sydney '23 + - As an East Coaster, Sydney loves the diversity, culture, and climate of Southern California. And, as an Organismal Biology major, she appreciates having all the STEM resources of the 5C schools paired with the tight-knit, supportive community of attending a women's college. "I visited Scripps and fell in love with the campus and the classroom environment." View Sydney's Weekend Sam '24 + - Hailing from Minnesota, Sam was sold on Scripps as soon as she saw how much Scripps students want each other to succeed (the Southern California sunshine isn't bad, either). Having people in her corner who inspire and challenge her to be her best is an essential part of her Scripps experience. "SoCal has opened up different opportunities for me in jobs and internships that I wouldn't have had back home."
